This is the official Documentation for GatePlane.

What is GatePlane?

GatePlane is a tool for Just-In-Time (JIT), Privileged Access Management (PAM), based on Vault/OpenBao.

It is an open tool, made by cyber security professionals with vision to enable the community and support businesses with the power of the crowd.

You can see more in the pages below:

What exactly it has to do with Vault/OpenBao?

GatePlane builds on Vault/OpenBao to deliver stronger security controls.

Vault/OpenBao already provides trusted, battle-tested foundations for Secrets Management and Access Control. By using it, GatePlane doesn’t reinvent the wheel but instead adds new layers of value: approval workflows, Just-In-Time (JIT) access, and fine-grained Privileged Access Management (PAM), as well as notifications and usage analytics.

This means you get the reliability of Vault/OpenBao’s proven security, combined with GatePlane’s flexible, self-hosted control plane that makes privileged access safer and easier to manage.

The technical decision to use Vault/OpenBao is well explained in the pages below:

What does GatePlane support?

The GatePlane Features page explains all the supported functionalities, and documentation to the API level is provided in the API Reference page, as well as in the Configuration page of each of the plugins.

How do I deploy it?

This part is covered in the Get Started page, from the Vault/OpenBao prerequisites, to configuring your Gates using our Terraform modules, to setting up the GatePlane WebUI.

I’m sold. How do I also enable the paid features?

The paid features can be found in our website

You can reference the technical part in the How To Enable Team and Enterprise page.
